Raft Wars starts on a beach, where a little boy named Simon is digging with a toy spade and turns up a pile of treasure. The Daily News prints the story under the headline Boy Discovers Treasure, and a pirate reading it through a telescope decides the loot is his. From then on Simon sits in a yellow duck-shaped float while his older brother rides an orange raft beside him, and the two of them trade shots with whoever comes to steal it. The camera pans across the bay to show the enemy, here a bald pirate in a barrel and a captain on a beached ship, then back to you. Each level announces a par, Level 1 asks for six shots, and turns pass back and forth until one side has nobody left. A shark fin cruises between the rafts. Martijn Kunst made the game in 2007, and the title screen carries a BubbleBox copyright.

How to play Raft Wars

  1. Click PLAY, watch or skip the beach comic, and click GO.
  2. The level card shows its number and par. Click to begin; the camera shows the enemy positions and returns.
  3. On your turn, move the mouse to aim and click to throw. The camera follows the shot across the water.
  4. The enemies shoot back at Simon and his brother. The bar at the bottom shows both sides with small health marks over every fighter.
  5. Knock out every enemy to finish the level. Using fewer shots than the par is the target.

Tips

  • Use the opening camera pan to judge how far away each enemy sits before you take your first shot.
  • A shot that lands short still teaches you something. Raise the angle a little rather than changing everything at once.
  • The grenade and missile icons show a count. When it reads zero they are not available yet, so the ball is your main weapon early on.
  • Enemies hit back hard. If Simon goes down, the brother can still finish the level, but the par becomes harder to beat.

Questions about Raft Wars

Who are the characters in Raft Wars?

Simon, the small boy who found the treasure, and his older brother, both in inflatable rafts, against pirates and other thieves.

What does par mean in Raft Wars?

It is the number of shots the level expects. Finishing in fewer is the aim, a bit like golf.

Is there a two-player mode?

No. You control the brothers against computer opponents.

Can I play Raft Wars on a touchscreen?

It is built for a mouse. Aiming follows the pointer before you click, which a finger on a phone cannot do well, so a computer is the better choice.
