Two oversized cartoon heads, a ball and two small goals: that is the whole cast of Sports Heads Football, a 2011 Flash game from Mouse Breaker. Each match is a sprint against the clock on a side-on pitch in front of a packed stadium. You hop around on the right side, head the ball when it drops on you and blast it with a kick when it rolls close to your feet. The computer keeper-striker on the left does the same and is surprisingly quick to punish a ball left near your goal. The single-player campaign is a ladder of ten opponents, each a caricature of a well-known footballer with a joke name, and the next one opens only after you beat the current one. Power-up badges appear over the pitch during play. Hit one with the ball and something odd happens, from a frozen rival or a tiny goal to a broken leg, a bomb or a streaker running across the grass.
| Left and Right arrows | Run along the pitch (single player) |
|---|---|
| Up arrow | Jump to head the ball |
| Space | Kick, and start a match from the rules card |
| W A S D + Space | 2 Player mode: player 1 moves with W A S D and kicks with Space |
| Arrows + P | 2 Player mode: player 2 moves with the arrow keys and kicks with P |
How to play Sports Heads Football
- Wait for the instructions card to load and press Play, then choose New Game for the campaign or 2 Player for a match against a friend.
- On Level Select, use the small arrows to pick your head, then click the first unlocked opponent card.
- Click inside the pitch and press Space to dismiss the rules card. A three-second countdown starts the match.
- You defend the goal on the right. Move under the ball, jump to head it forward, and kick when it is at your feet.
- When the clock runs out, the result is saved on the opponent card. Win to open the next rival on the ladder.
Tips
- Stay between the ball and your own net. Most goals against you come from chasing too far left and leaving the goal open.
- A kick only works at close range. Let the ball roll into you and press Space just as it touches your foot.
- Aim for green power-up badges when they appear; red ones hurt you and yellow ones change the ball for both sides.
- If the rival is frozen or limping after a badge, push forward at once, because the effect lasts only a few seconds.
Questions about Sports Heads Football
How many opponents are there?
Ten in the campaign. They unlock one by one, and each card keeps the score of your best match against that rival.
Can two players play on one keyboard?
Yes. In 2 Player mode the left player uses W A S D and Space, the right player uses the arrow keys and P.
How long is a match?
The bar under the pitch calls it a one-minute timed game, and the clock above the score counts it down. The most goals at the end wins.
Can I play Sports Heads Football on a phone?
No. Every action is on the keyboard and there are no on-screen buttons, so it needs a computer.
