An underwater timing game from Spil Games. Lee, a diver in a big bubble helmet, has fallen for a mermaid who lives far below, and every level is another attempt to reach the bottom before his oxygen tank empties. The whole game runs on one key. Sea turtles drift through the water and act as stepping stones: Lee rides one, and a press of Space sends him swimming forward to catch the next, which carries him deeper. Pearls float along the way for bonus points and for spending in the Store, while the Sea Witch and ink-squirting squid get in the way. Adventure Mode walks you through ten levels on a shell-shaped map, and Arcade Mode is offered on the title screen as a separate option.

How to play Diving for Love

  1. Choose Adventure Mode and start at level one on the shell map, then read the short how-to cards.
  2. Wait while Lee rides a turtle and watch where the next one is heading.
  3. Press Space when the next turtle or starfish is in reach; Lee leaves his ride and swims forward to it.
  4. Collect pearls on the way, but never at the cost of missing a ride, because the oxygen tank keeps draining.
  5. Avoid the squid ink and the Sea Witch and reach the sea floor to finish the chapter.

Tips

  • A patient press is better than a quick one: jumping off early leaves Lee swimming in open water while his air drops.
  • Spend pearls in the Store between levels; that is what they are for.
  • The oxygen tank in the corner is your real timer, so glance at it before deciding to chase a pearl.

Questions about Diving for Love

What is the goal of each level?

Get Lee to the bottom of the sea before his oxygen runs out, collecting pearls along the way.

What do the sea turtles do?

They are transfer points. Lee rides one and pushes off it to reach the next, going deeper each time.

Which mode should I start with?

Adventure Mode, because it is a ten-level journey on a map with a Store between dives and short tutorial cards at the start. Arcade Mode is the other button on the title screen.

Does it work on a phone?

It needs a Space key, so a keyboard is required.
