A breakfast diner with log-cabin walls and an orange cat lounging by the counter is the setting for this 2012 Flipline game. The grill is a griddle with eight round spots, and a single order can ask for one, two or more pancakes, so the first thing you look at on a ticket is how many circles sit at the bottom. You drag the batter bowl onto empty spots, watch each pancake's gauge climb, click to flip it and finally drag it to the green Finished Stack; a red X throws away a burnt one. The Build room is where Pancakeria differs most from its siblings. Toppings such as butter pads and blueberries land on a small target symbol that rides under the cursor, so you have to aim the target, not the pointer, and the ticket says how many of each it wants: our first customer, Peggy, asked for three butter pads, a cup of blueberries poured over the top and blueberry syrup. Syrup bottles sit on the back shelf, chocolate beside blueberry, and pour while you sweep across the plate. A fourth station button is locked with a padlock when you begin, so the opening days are just orders, griddle and plate. Peggy's breakfast earned 37 points.

How to play Papa's Pancakeria

  1. Press CONTINUE on the advert, then Play, pick New Game, choose Cooper or Prudence and type a name.
  2. At the counter press Take Order. Count the pancakes, butter pads and other items on the ticket before pinning it.
  3. On the Grill pour as many pancakes as the order needs, flip each one when its first side is done and move them to the Finished Stack.
  4. In Build drag each pancake onto the plate, then add butter and fruit where the target symbol points, spacing repeated pieces evenly.
  5. Pour syrup last, press FINISH and drag the ticket onto the holder beside the plate to serve.

Tips

  • Aim with the little crosshair, not the mouse arrow. Pieces drop on the target, which sits some way below the pointer.
  • When a ticket shows x3 or x4 next to a topping, spread the pieces around the pancake rather than piling them in the middle.
  • Line the pancakes up on the plate. A stack that hangs off to one side makes every later topping harder to place.
  • Pour two orders' pancakes together when you can; the griddle has room for eight.

Questions about Papa's Pancakeria

Is the Freezeria To Go! screen part of Pancakeria?

It is an advert Flipline placed inside the Flash file. Press CONTINUE to go on to the title screen.

What is the locked fourth station?

It is closed when you begin. In our play we only used Order, Grill and Build, so we cannot say exactly when it opens.

Can Papa's Pancakeria be played on a phone?

Everything is drag and tap, so it can be done with a finger, but aiming the target symbol for butter and fruit is fiddly on a small screen. A mouse is easier.

Does progress carry over between visits?

Yes, through three save slots stored in your browser.
