PokéSurvivor begins with a login card over a pixel-art meadow full of wandering creatures. You can make an account, sign in with Google, or press Play as guest, which is the quickest way in but keeps nothing once you leave. Guests then sit an eight-question personality test in the style of the old Mystery Dungeon games: what you would do about a street fight, a wallet lying on the ground and so on. Our answers came out as Impulsivo, "you act first and think later", and the game handed us Scorbunny as a partner, with a button to choose another if you would rather.
The main menu is where the long game lives. Play enters the dungeon; Pokémon shows your collection, which starts at 1 out of 966; Upgrades spends coins to make every future run stronger; Gacha draws new partners from nine regions, shiny variants included; Missions holds achievements; Friends lets up to four people form a group; and a Leaderboard ranks whoever survives longest. A guest account starts with 600 coins. The strip along the top keeps coins, two kinds of gacha tickets and your account name in view, next to buttons for sound, fullscreen and settings.
A run is a top-down survival round in the genre popularised by Vampire Survivors. You only steer. WASD or the arrow keys move your partner across grass, dirt paths and patches of tall weeds while its attack fires automatically at anything close: our Scorbunny kept flinging small fireballs at the wild creatures that drifted in from the edges. Defeated enemies leave glowing yellow crystals behind, a timer at the top counts up, and the health bar and level in the corner tell you how close the swarm is to winning.
A first run lasts a few minutes. The real hook is between runs, in deciding whether coins go to permanent upgrades or to another gacha pull.

How to play PokéSurvivor
- Press Play as guest, or log in if you want your collection saved.
- Answer the eight personality questions and accept the partner the game suggests, or choose another.
- Press Play in the menu to enter the dungeon.
- Walk around the map and keep away from groups of wild creatures while your partner attacks on its own.
- Collect the yellow crystals that defeated enemies leave behind.
- Spend coins between runs on Upgrades or Gacha pulls, then try to survive longer.
Tips
- Keep moving in wide circles; standing still lets enemies close in from every side.
- Sweep back over the crystal trail after a fight instead of leaving it behind.
- Make an account early if you plan to come back, because guest progress is not saved.
Questions about PokéSurvivor
What is PokéSurvivor?
A fan-made survival roguelite: you guide one partner creature through waves of wild ones while its attacks fire automatically, and grow a collection between runs.
Do I need an account?
No. Play as guest works straight away, but guest progress is not kept; an account or Google sign-in saves your collection.
How is my first partner chosen?
By an eight-question personality quiz. The result suggests a partner, and you can pick a different one if you prefer.
Can I play with friends?
The Friends menu supports groups of up to four players.
Is it an official Pokémon game?
No. The game calls itself a non-profit fan project and credits Pokémon to Nintendo, Creatures and GAME FREAK.
Do I have to aim?
No, attacks target nearby enemies by themselves. Your only job in a run is movement.
