The second Strike Force Heroes, released by Sky9 Games in 2013, introduces its cast right on the title screen: the Engineer in a night vision helmet, the cigar-chewing Mercenary, the General with a revolver, the armoured Juggernaut and the hooded Sniper. Before anything else you choose one of three save slots, so two other people can keep their own progress on the same computer. The campaign is fifteen missions long, and each can be cleared on Normal, Hard and Insane for three separate completion marks. The opening mission, Station Repair, puts you in the suit of Mick the Astronaut, an engineer who only carries a wrench. A routine repair of Space Station SS01A goes wrong when armed intruders show up, a voice called Houston reports that backup power is down and the main lift is dead, and you have to leave the hull and float around the outside of the station with the Earth turning below. The HUD tracks armour, health and money, which the campaign uses for gear between missions.

How to play Strike Force Heroes 2

  1. Press Play on the hero lineup, wait for the intro and pick an empty save slot.
  2. In the main menu choose Campaign. Mission 1 is unlocked; set the difficulty with the arrows and press Start.
  3. Click through the briefing pictures, then Start Game. Hints pop up in the corner as you reach new moves.
  4. Fight your way to the kill target shown in the mission card. Station Repair is a Team Deathmatch to fifteen kills.
  5. Use Soldiers between missions to manage your heroes, and Custom Game for matches with your own settings.

Tips

  • Mick starts with only a wrench, so close the distance before swinging and use jumps to drop onto enemies from above.
  • Outside the station gravity is low. A jump carries you much further than inside, which helps to cross gaps but leaves you exposed for longer.
  • Each mission card lists a recommended level. If a mission feels too hard, replay earlier ones on Normal to level up first.
  • The loading screen tips are worth reading; one reminds you that the Juggernaut is strongest at close range.
  • Hard and Insane give separate completion marks on every mission, so a finished campaign still has two more rounds to chase.
