The sequel turns a list of castles into a campaign with a story. A storybook page explains that the Redvonian king is still not satisfied: his rival, King Blutias, has fortified a cluster of islands called Crushtania, and you are sent there as Siege Master together with Halgrim, a grumpy mason who supplies the ammunition. The first island, Betsonian Island, shows its fortresses as icons on a hand-drawn map, and finishing one opens the path to the next. Ammunition is the big change from the first game. Halgrim starts you with a plain wood log and promises more as you advance, and the round selector at the bottom of the screen switches between whatever you carry. Every stage also shows a par, starting with a single shot on the Castle of Trainmeton, and a sign over the field counts the shots you have taken. Levels are greener, set in a tropical jungle instead of a grey meadow, and the camera follows each throw from the trebuchet all the way to the walls.
| Click | Start the trebuchet; click again to release the projectile |
|---|---|
| Ammo wheel | Pick the projectile for the next throw from the round selector at the bottom |
| Reset | Restart the castle with a full set of occupants and a fresh shot count |
| Map | Return to the island map to choose another fortress |
How to play Crush the Castle 2
- Choose New Game, page through the story of Crushtania and the introduction of Halgrim the Mason.
- On the island map click the highlighted island, then the fortress icon you want to attack.
- Accept the ammunition Halgrim hands you, then click once to swing the trebuchet and again to release.
- Bring the people counter at the bottom, 0 / 4 on the first fortress, up to its maximum to see the Castle Crushed banner.
- Try to match the par shown next to the counter, then move on along the island map; your progress can be saved to a game account.
Tips
- The wood log is light. Bring it down on wooden posts and floors rather than on the stone base, which barely moves when hit.
- The opening fortress has a par of one, which means one well-timed throw at the foundation should bring it all down.
- When a shot overshoots, release slightly sooner; when it falls short of the walls, wait a little longer before the second click.
- Use Reset rather than finishing a messy attempt. A clean run is the only way to hit par and the counter starts from zero again.
Questions about Crush the Castle 2
What is new in Crush the Castle 2?
An island map with a story, a mason character who gives you new types of ammunition, a par number of shots for each fortress, achievements and a castle builder.
Do I need to play the first game?
No. The story recaps itself in the opening pages and the controls are the same two clicks.
Does my progress save?
The title screen offers to save and load through an online account, so progress is tied to the browser unless you log in there.
Can I play it on a mobile phone?
Everything is done by clicking, so tapping works. The screen is crowded on a small display and a mouse makes release timing easier.
