Learn to Fly begins with a penguin at a computer reading an encyclopedia page that says penguins are flightless birds. It does not take this well. Every day after that it climbs to the top of a snowy ramp, slides down, launches off the lip and tries to stay in the air for as long as possible before dropping into the sea. Each attempt is one day, counted on a wooden sign. When the penguin lands, a chalkboard adds up the result: money for flight distance, money for maximum altitude, and a multiplier for how long the flight lasted. That money goes into research on a second chalkboard, where boxes buy more ramp height, acceleration and lower air resistance, alongside three gliders and three rockets. The first glider is described as an old beat-up glider. The game was made by Light Bringer and sponsored by Max Games in 2009; the build here shows version 3.51 on the title screen.

How to play Learn to Fly
- Click PLAY on the title screen. The first chalkboard explains the basics: wait for the jump, adjust your angle with the arrows, and hit the water belly-first and fast to bounce.
- The penguin slides down the ramp on its own. Once it leaves the lip, use the arrows to hold a good angle.
- After the splash, the results board pays for distance and altitude, multiplied by flight duration.
- On the research board, click the boxes for Ramp Height, Acceleration or Air Resistance, or a glider or rocket, if your funds cover the cost shown.
- Press FLY, then choose a ramp on the Select Stage bar: 5, 10, 20, 35 and 50 feet, the higher ones unlocking through achievements.
Tips
- Each ramp has four achievements: travel a distance, reach a height, hit a speed and glide for a set time. On the 5 foot ramp they are 40 feet, 10 feet, 45 mph and 5 seconds, worth 25 dollars each.
- The 35 foot ramp shows the same four goals at 1500 feet, 100 feet, 150 mph and 25 seconds, worth 2000 dollars each, and asks for 10 achievements first.
- The instructions promise a bounce if the penguin hits the water belly-first and fast enough, so level out before the splash instead of diving.
- Prices are shown at the top of the board when you hover a box. The first ramp box costs 30 and the beat-up glider 50, so a couple of early flights pay for one of them.
Questions about Learn to Fly
Why does my penguin fall straight into the water?
Early flights are meant to be short. Each landing still pays, and ramp height, acceleration and the first glider make the next one longer.
What do the 5, 10, 20, 35 and 50 buttons mean?
They are ramp heights in feet. A taller ramp needs more achievements to unlock and pays much more for its goals.
Is there a way to restart from zero?
Yes. The title screen has a Clear Saved Data button that wipes the stored progress.
Can Learn to Fly be played on a phone?
Not comfortably. Steering in the air uses the arrow keys, so a computer keyboard is needed.
