A royal letter opens the game: the king wants rival strongholds levelled and their owners gone, and you are his Siege Master. What follows is a long row of castles built from wooden beams, stone pillars and pointed roofs, each one staffed by a few spear guards and a robed lord. You never aim with an arrow or a power bar. The trebuchet throws its stone in an arc that depends only on the moment you let go, so every shot is a question of timing, and the screen pans across the field to show where the rock lands. A low release skims the grass and smashes the base, a later one lobs the stone onto the top floor. Wood splinters, beams slide out of place and towers fold in on the people standing on them. A castle counts as crushed only when the tally at the bottom reaches every last occupant, and fewer shots means a better result. Released in 2009, it was one of the games that made physics siege puzzles popular on the web.

How to play Crush the Castle

  1. Press Play, then New Game, read the king's letter and choose Go Forth to reach the first castle.
  2. Click anywhere to set the trebuchet in motion and click a second time to let the stone fly.
  3. Watch where it lands, then reload and adjust the release a fraction earlier or later.
  4. The counter at the bottom shows how many of the people inside are down, for example 0 / 4 Killed on the first castle.
  5. Once nobody is left standing the castle is crushed and the next one on the list unlocks; a level select lets you replay any of them.

Tips

  • Small changes in timing make big changes in range. Keep the first click identical every time and only move the second one.
  • Aim at the supports rather than at people. A pillar knocked out of the bottom floor brings the whole upper storey down at once.
  • Stones keep rolling after they land. A shot that seems short can still slide into the base and topple a post.
  • Lords in robes often hide on the ground floor behind stone pillars, so save a flat, low throw for them at the end.

Questions about Crush the Castle

How do I aim in Crush the Castle?

There is no aiming cursor. The first click starts the trebuchet swing and the second releases the stone, so the timing between them decides the distance and height.

When is a castle finished?

When every guard and noble inside is down. The bottom bar counts them, and the number of shots you used is what you try to bring down on a replay.

Is there a castle editor?

The menu has a Build Your Own option next to New Game and Level Select.

Does it work on a phone?

It is controlled only by clicks, so taps work too. The view is small on a phone screen and precise release timing is easier with a mouse.
