Funny Shooter does not hide its shop. The main menu sits on a wide grid of weapons sorted into automatic rifles, pistols, submachine guns and sniper rifles, plus a bottom row for invulnerability, a grenade launcher, a rocket launcher and a pump shotgun. Several of those slots carry a Buy, Watch Ad label, and a line at the top warns that anything you purchase lasts for two levels. On the left are big Play, Control and Settings buttons and the current level number.

Press Play and you are standing in a pale grey arena of blocky walls, towers and ledges, holding an assault rifle in first person. The top left shows a skull with a kill counter, and on the first level it reads 0 out of 30. Bright orange humanoid enemies with goggle eyes and helmets come at you from every direction, some swinging clubs at point-blank range, others perched on the rooftops. The bottom of the screen carries your health bar, the ammo count for the current weapon, a grenade counter that starts at three, and a numbered row of weapon slots from one to six.

The flow is simple: keep moving, keep firing, reload when the magazine runs low and switch weapons with the number keys when a crowd gets too thick. Hits send enemies flopping in loose ragdoll fashion, which is where the name comes from. Our first burst at the attacker straight ahead knocked him over and ticked the counter to 1 out of 30, and a second one got close enough to take a big chunk off the health bar before we turned him around. The Control screen also lists a two-key knife attack on F and Q, a grenade throw on G, holding the right button to aim down the sights, and even keys to inspect or drop your weapon.

The build is wrapped in a portal frame, so a slim bar along the bottom shows the portal's name, a More Games link and a fullscreen button.

How to play Funny Shooter

  1. On the menu, look over the shop and pick up any weapon you can already afford.
  2. Press Play and click into the arena so the mouse controls your aim.
  3. Strafe constantly while firing at the orange attackers closing in on you.
  4. Watch the skull counter in the corner and keep shooting until it reaches the target.
  5. Open Control on the menu once to see the knife, grenade and inspect keys before you start.

Tips

  • Melee attackers are the immediate threat; deal with the nearest one before aiming at rooftop enemies.
  • Reload between waves of attackers instead of mid-fight, since the rifle magazine empties fast.
  • Shop purchases expire after two levels, so buy a big weapon just before a tough stretch.
