The whole cast of The World's Hardest Game fits in one sentence: you are a small red square, the enemies are blue dots, the goal is a green strip of floor. There is no health, no jump and no weapon. One touch from a dot and the square pops back to the last safe zone, while the death counter in the top right corner ticks up by one. The first room already sets the tone: a checkered corridor between two green pads, with four dots sliding across it in a tight line that leaves a gap for only a fraction of a second. Later rooms add yellow coins that must all be collected before the exit opens, and middle checkpoints that save your progress inside a long level. The game was made by Snubby Land in 2007, and the title screen promises it is harder than anything you have ever played. Thirty rooms later, many players agree.

How to play The World's Hardest Game

  1. Wait for the loader to finish, then click Begin and choose Play Game on the title screen.
  2. Read the short briefing and click Play Game again. Click once on the level so the keyboard is captured.
  3. Move the red square out of the green start pad with the arrow keys and cross the checkered floor without touching any blue dot.
  4. If the room has yellow coins, collect every one of them before heading for the exit; the final green pad does nothing until they are gone.
  5. Reach the green exit to load the next of the 30 rooms. A full run ends with your total death count.

Tips

  • Stop and watch a room for a few cycles before moving. Every dot follows a fixed route, so the safe window repeats exactly.
  • Tap the keys instead of holding them when the gap is narrow. The square moves at one fixed speed, and small taps let you creep up to the edge of a dot's path.
  • Mid-level green pads are checkpoints. Coins you picked up before reaching one stay collected, so split a hard room into two smaller problems.
  • The counter does not care about time, only about deaths. Moving slowly is never punished here.

Questions about The World's Hardest Game

How many levels are in The World's Hardest Game?

Thirty. The briefing screen says you must clear all 30 before you can submit a score, and the counter at the top shows which room you are in.

How is the score calculated?

Your score is the number of times you died during the run. Fewer deaths means a better result.

Can I play it on a phone?

No. The square is steered only with the arrow keys, so you need a physical keyboard on a computer.

Is this the first game or the sequel?

This is the original 2007 game with 30 rooms. The follow-up with a bigger level count is on our site as a separate page.
