Fancy Pants Man is a scribbled stick figure with a spiky tuft of hair and a pair of bright orange trousers, and his whole charm is in how he moves. He does not start and stop like a usual platform hero. He builds up speed, slides when you let go, tumbles into a roll when you hold Down on a slope, and flips through the air after a jump off a hill. Brad Borne drew everything in a loose pencil style, from the purple grass to the hanging rock that hides a door, and the first world is mostly about learning that flow. Even the menus are rooms: the game opens in a dark hall with two doors, and the main menu is a corridor where you walk to Start Game, Level Select, Collectibles or Options and press Up. Along the way you collect swirly squiggles, dodge black spiders and keep an eye on a small health bar and three lives.

How to play The Fancy Pants Adventures: World 1
- On the title screen click Play World 1 Now. Ignore the advert for the later console release printed next to it.
- In the dark hall walk right to the door labelled World 1 and press Up.
- Walk along the menu corridor to the Start Game door and press Up again. Level Select and Collectibles live in the neighbouring doors.
- Run right through the hills, jumping over gaps and onto ledges. Squiggles are counted at the top left next to your lives.
- Black spiders patrol the paths, so time your jumps over them, and look for doors in the scenery that lead to new areas.
Tips
- Tap the arrow keys instead of holding them near doors. The hero carries his speed and easily slides past the door you wanted.
- Hold Down as you touch the ground after a big jump. The roll keeps your speed instead of stopping you dead.
- The Collectibles door in the menu corridor is the place to check what you have picked up so far.
- If the game runs slowly, press Q to drop the quality setting; the sketch style looks almost the same.

Who made The Fancy Pants Adventures?
Brad Borne drew and programmed it. World 1 first appeared in 2006; the copy here shows a 2009 copyright and version 1.7 on its menus.
Why does the title screen talk about a console version?
This build was updated after the series moved to consoles, and the creator used the title screen to announce that release. Play World 1 Now starts the browser game as normal.
How do I roll?
Hold the Down arrow while running down a slope or at the moment you land. On flat ground Down only makes the hero duck.
Can I play it on a phone?
Not well. Movement, jumping and doors all need a keyboard, so a computer is the way to play.
