The sequel opens with a joke at the hero's expense. He finally gets a helicopter, it drops out of the sky in the desert, and the caption simply reads Again??!!!. So the escape turns into a road trip. Instead of one long road toward a single goal, Earn to Die 2012 puts a hand-drawn map of the western United States in front of you, with a red cross far up on the coast and the first stop, Desert Dash, in the south. The car this time is an orange muscle car with flames on the doors, kept in a brick workshop with tyres on the walls. Seven upgrade slots run along the bottom of the garage, and there is a new one, the Zombie Kit, that bolts blades onto the bodywork. The results card now pays separately for distance and for every zombie you hit, so ploughing through a crowd is part of the income rather than just an obstacle.

How to play Earn to Die 2012
- Pick With Sound or Muted, press Play and let the crash scene run, or skip it with the arrows in the corner.
- On the map click Garage. The car is already yours; start with $25.
- Buy what you can afford from the bottom row: engine, gearbox, wheels, Zombie Kit, gun, boost and fuel. Fuel is the cheapest at $3 a step.
- Press Go, confirm the controls popup and hold Up. The bar at the top shows how far along the stage you are.
- When the tank is empty, the Day complete card adds up distance money and zombie money. Press the arrow to retry or Garage to upgrade.
Tips
- The first Day 1 drive paid $24 for distance and $8 for zombies. Hitting more of them early is a real share of your income.
- Buy fuel before anything else; every extra second on the road is paid twice, in distance and in zombies hit.
- The Zombie Kit slot sells Blades for $100, a ramming attachment for a car that spends its day hitting zombies.
- The right arrow in the garage scrolls to the next vehicle, a boxy military-style truck that unlocks for $500.
Questions about Earn to Die 2012
How is it different from the first Earn to Die?
The goal is a map of stages instead of one road to a helicopter, the garage has seven slots including blades, and zombies you hit pay money on their own line.
Is it the same as Earn to Die 2?
No. Earn to Die 2012 is an earlier Flash sequel. Earn to Die 2 is a separate game with its own page here.
Can I mute the music?
Yes. The very first screen asks whether to play with sound or muted, and there is a gear icon on the title screen as well.
Is there a brake?
The control card in this game lists only Up and the two tilt arrows. Speed control comes from easing off Up.
Will it run on a phone?
No. It needs a keyboard for the arrow keys, so use a computer.
