By the third game the art is cleaner, the rooms have depth and the jokes come thicker. Phil now wears a hooded green jumper and sits in a geography class under a blackboard that orders everyone to "Study for the test on Saturday!". A world map on the wall marks "You are here" and, underneath, "Not there!!", someone has painted MOO in yellow across the plaster, and the teacher, Mr. Soggy, sits behind his desk next to a globe and an air vent. He lets nobody out of the room or out of his sight, which is the first wall you have to climb. Jonochrome began the game in January 2008 and finished it in March after putting it off for a year. His notes on the menu mention more than 560 library items, 22 rooms on the map and plenty of cameos from fellow animators, plus private jokes he admits only his friends will get.

|---|---|
| Left click | Examine, take an item or talk |
| Inventory bar | Seven slots at the bottom; pick an item there before using it in the room |
| L, M, H buttons | Toggle graphics quality if the game runs slowly |
How to play Riddle School 3
- From Main Menu choose Start Game. A longer intro shows the school building and the class; let it play or click to skip.
- Sweep the mouse across the geography room. Every interactive object shows a grey label, which saves a lot of blind clicking.
- Take the ruler lying on the front desk. It goes straight into the inventory bar and is the first tool you get.
- Trying the Hallway arrow only earns a reminder that Mr. Soggy watches the door, so look for a way out that he cannot see.
- Explore the 22 rooms beyond, combine items with the scenery and keep an eye on the map in the bottom right corner.
Tips
- Labels appear only while the pointer rests on something. If a corner of the screen shows nothing, there is truly nothing there.
- The vent near the teacher's desk is labelled for a reason. Look at what you carry and think about what could open it.
- Classmates repeat themselves after the first chat, so talk once, note the clue and move on.
- If animation stutters, press L or M under Toggle Quality. The puzzles are the same at every setting.
Questions about Riddle School 3
Do I need the first two games to understand this one?
No. Each episode is a fresh escape and the plot resets. Knowing Phred, Smiley and Zack from earlier helps with a few jokes, but the puzzles stand alone.
How big is Riddle School 3?
The map has 22 rooms, more than the earlier episodes, so expect it to take noticeably longer than the first two.
Can I play on a tablet or phone?
The game needs only clicks, and a tap counts as one. The hover labels do not show on a touchscreen, though, so on mobile you lose the main hint system.
What are the L, M and H buttons?
They switch the drawing quality between low, medium and high. Lower settings help older or slower computers keep the animation smooth.
